Documents you Need to Apply to a UK University: Nigerian students must complete the following entry requirements for postgraduate studies in the United Kingdom, which may vary by school:

  • At the discretion of each university, an internationally recognised English language qualification, such as IELTS or equivalent, SSCE (WAEC) English C6 or above is frequently accepted.
  • Minimum of three passes at grade C or higher at GCE A-level, and five passes at grade C or above at GCSE/IGCSE level, including English and Maths, plus similar credentials such as African WAECs. – Six passes in grades one through six, including math and English
  • To qualify for the International Foundation Programme, you must have a Senior School Certificate (SSCE), a West African Senior School Certificate (WAEC), or a NECO with a Grade B or C in at least 5 courses.

It’s essential to verify with each university’s admissions department to see if your certificate is accepted. For institutions that are members of the Northern Consortium (NCUK), a completed international Foundation year (IFY) programme with the requisite academic level, such as a term at the Oxbridge School in Lagos, will be considered for admission. Other Nigerian colleges may provide a foundation course with direct access to a UK undergraduate programme.
